Montessori Infants’ House
Located in Auchenflower, Brisbane, the Montessori Infants’ House is a unique Community Playgroup designed specifically for 0-3 year olds and their caregivers. In this Playgroup, children are given the opportunity to discover independent choice making, find joyful purpose and become an integral part of their first community away from home.
Montessori Infants’ House provides the child an introduction to the Montessori Method, while having a parent/carer present. There are a wide variety of prepared activities for the children to choose; from Practical Life, Sensorial Activities, Language, Culture, Art, Craft & Horticulture. The parent accompanies the child and the facilitator oversees the whole process, demonstrating the materials when necessary. Enjoying this quality time focusing on your child is a special and rewarding part of the playgroup experience at MIH.

It is a delight to watch the wonderful development in the children during their time at the Infants’ House. In each session there are smiles of satisfaction and delight from the children as they experience the joy of learning. Involvement in the playgroup fosters the development of various skills, independence, a love of learning and is a solid foundation on which to reach full potential.
MIH provides your family a foundational introduction to the Montessori Method. Many families who attend the Playgroup enjoy a supported transition to the Children’s House at age 3. Families who attend the kindergarten find the MIH Playgroup an ideal activity for their younger siblings whilst onsite.
Montessori Infants’ House expectations
1. When entering the Montessori Infants’ House please complete the sign in sheet on the foyer table.
2. This is a parent/carer and child playgroup which provides the opportunity for one-on-one activities with your child. Please stay with your child at all times.
3. The playgroup coordinator prepares the activities carefully to support the children’s development, please ensure the activities are used one at a time and returned to their place before moving onto the next activity. Montessori materials focus on one area of development at a time, for example colour recognition.
4. For the safety of your child and others, please ensure you child uses the climbing equipment provided, not the shelves.
5. If your child is demonstrating an interest in throwing, please guide them to an activity with balls inside or move outside to the ball rolling or balance beam. Materials must be used in the way they are intended to keep our community safe.
6. When we model or support the children to return activities to their place, we are teaching the children to be respectful and to take care of items and the environment. We are being respectful to other members of our community so that the activity is then available for them to use.
7. Group time is optional, and some children may choose to enjoy the singing from afar or as they complete their activity and are then drawn to the group. As their concentration and regulation develops, children will be able to sit and listen and join in of their own accord.
8. If your child breaks something, please let the Playgroup guide know so that we can replace it, accidents happen and cleaning up and replacing items become a learning opportunity.
Please leave your phone/camera in your bag. Thank you for being a caring and respectful member of our little community. Please don’t hesitate to ask our Montessori trained playgroup guide if you have any questions, suggestions, or concerns.
